FJOLDIR
kent, 21, 3 years
Personality |
One might take Fjoldir to be a shy fellow. The thing is, he's simply not as loud as most. If there's an argument or discussion going on, Fjoldir is the type to listen without jumping to any conclusions too quickly or doing too much to throw himself in if he doesn't actually have something worthwhile to say. One might call it a great deal of patience or simply a disinterest in being the center of attention most of the time, but don't expect Fjoldir to make, outside of his impressive size and relatively commanding voice, a huge imprint unless he's thought something out or feels strongly enough about it to interject.
No one should mistake Fjoldir for a boring kind of fellow, though. Again, shy he is not, but it takes getting to know him to clearly reveal the various facets of his being. He has a subtle, good-natured sense of humor and typically remains a fairly contentedly happy fellow at all times. He can find a way to get along with most anyone he meets with a few slow grins and the Nord in him that makes him prone to sharing a few drinks, having a sparring match, or less generally, treating someone with respect who's earned such respect. Though again, he'll never be the center of attention and doesn't much care to be, it's hard not to consider Fjoldir an alright guy.
The only times he's really quick to anger is when his protectiveness instincts kick in or he recognizes an explicitly bad person or act. Being the size he is, Fjoldir has disciplined himself to never use his strength against others (beyond jokingly, at least) unless they've done something to deserve it. Part of the reason he chose to become a guard was that he knew he could expend his extensive amounts of his energy for causes that would aid Whiterun. Unlike some guards who find the work boring, Fjoldir rather enjoys it, because he knows many other big fellows like him have turned to pushing others around as bandits or the like. That's something this pretty good-hearted fellow has never wanted.

History
Fjoldir's early life was that of a blacksmith's son and not much else. Born in Helgen as the oldest of three children, Fjoldir actually started out his life as a sickly child, spending a portion of his first ten years in and out of his bed with various ailments. Though his family was poor, both parents, and even his younger sister, managed to take care of him well. Fjoldir showed the fruits of this attention given to him when growth spurts started to hit just in time for him to join his father, training to smith. It was there that he spent his next several years, the "big kid" who would help his friends out on adventures into the nearby woods when he wasn't helping his father.
When the Imperial presence in Helgen became too much for Fjoldir's father, the family made a move further north towards the heart of Whiterun hold due to his father's belief that there were more loyal Nords to be found there. Fjoldir spent a year continuing to work under his father, before the old man would retire and hand the work over to Fjoldir permanently. Fjoldir took to training his youngest sister in turn. It was during this time that the family home and the surrounding area was attacked by bandit raiders, and it was only through the efforts of a fully grown Fjoldir, his father, and his middle sister (who had taken to the bow) that they were fought off without destroying the entirety of their belongings. They did scrape together their means to smith, but Fjoldir had decided that his way of helping his family could be to join Whiterun's guard. He continued training his sister until she was at an age that she could take over as a smith, before he decided to leave for Whiterun proper and attempt to become a guard of the hold.
Due to his size and already-impressive strength, the guard took him on quickly and he went through their typical training before becoming a regular on the night shift, sending most of his money back to his family. A few years and a bit of praise from around the city earned him work during the daylight hours. Only recently has he been granted the opportunity to work Dragonsreach for a portion of each month, around the same time the war started. Fjoldir has hoped that Whiterun will turn to loyalty to the Stormcloaks, as his father influence always influenced him towards the traditional Nord way. Due to the respect he's gained, Fjoldir was present in the small troop that moved to inspect one of Whiterun's watchtowers and eventually encounter a dragon very recently. Like the others, he's gained a little name recognition from assisting with the kill.

Major Skills.
+Two-Handed Weapons: Having always been a larger fellow, Fjoldir took to the use of two-handed weapons early on in his career as a guard of Whiterun. He's become highly experienced with warhammers, especially.
+Light Armor: Having been drilled to move in the light armor worn by Whiterun guards, Fjoldir prefers it even when off-duty for its reasonable weight and allowance of movement.
+Block: Though he rarely uses a shield, Fjoldir has become solid at using his strength to knock away blows from those weaker or carrying smaller weapons than he. It's not a particularly skilled defensive tactic that he takes, but his force typically serves him well enough.
+Smithing: Having grown up alongside a father who worked for a blacksmith, Fjoldir learned to become a pretty good smith over time. Lack of practice over time has likely left him a little rusty (no pun intended), but he does capably help some of Whiterun's smithies on occasion.
Weapons, Armor, and Belongings.
+Steel Warhammer: A stock weapon of Whiterun guards and the one Fjoldir has chosen, his steel warhammer is not in perfect shape from use over the years, but he isn't interested in having a new one granted to him. He'd claim this one has grown to him.
+Whiterun Guard's Armor: The typical leather-based and lightly-reinforced armor of the guards of Whiterun, Fjoldir has worn a couple of sets of such armor for the better part of the past few years of his life.
